In depth interviews with experts or enthusiasts in the field of simulation

Mel, Kerry, Jane and Jenny introduce themselves and the podcast - they also role model vulnerability as they make errors in learning the podcasting process! We left one of the bloopers in for you to hopefully make you smile.

Jenny Rudolph - Senior director of Innovation, Center for Medical Simulation

Mary Fey  - Associate Director, Applied Learning for Performance & Safety, Center for Medical Simulation

Kate Morse - Assistant Dean for Experiential Learning and Innovation, Associate Clinical Professor at Drexel University, College of Nursing and Health Professions. In this session we discuss psychological safety, prebriefing and the differences in prebriefing between higher education and health-based sim centres and the possibility that were are focusing so much on 'psychological safety' that potentially we are doing our learners a disservice and not preparing them for the realities of clinical practice.

Professor Kate Morse and Dr Mary Fey join us to discuss the application of SimZones to the higher education context. We will discuss how SimZones can reduce learner cognitive load, scaffold learning and help to develop strategic faculty development plans. Mary and Kate's article discussed in the podcast: Teaching, coaching, or debriefing With Good Judgment: a roadmap for implementing “With Good Judgment” across the SimZones | Advances in Simulation

Mel had the great opportunity to catch up with two leaders in healthcare simulation at the Australasian Simulation Congress in Adelaide August 11-14: Professor Debra Kiegaldie - the Interprofessional Education and Simulation Lead for Monash University’s Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences in Melbourne, and Associate Professor Ellen Davies, the Research Program Lead at Adelaide Health Simulation

Mask-Ed: The educator transforms into a person with a history/story which is relevant to the learning experience and becomes a platform for teaching. The technique involves a three-way interplay involving the educator, the character and the learner. The educator tin character directs the learning process as they create a spontaneous and realistic simulation experience.

Mel had the opportunity to have a chat with Tess Vawser, Director of Clinical Education and Simulation at Epworth HealthCare about their fantastic undergraduate IPE simulation project within a health service.
